James Gunn throws a lasso of truth around Wonder Woman rumours

January 5, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Credit to James Gunn, because while he and Peter Safran continue to rebuild the fractured world of the DC universe, the Suicide Squad director still finds time to address the fallout from casting announcements, cancellations and rumours.

The latest story that he had to debunk surrounded the future of Wonder Woman, which we already knew would be different when it was announced that they wouldn’t be moving forward with Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, but reports had suggested that the character wouldn’t be in the initial plans for their interconnected vision at all.

When asked directly to debunk a Variety feature on the DC restructure which stated that Wonder Woman wouldn’t be in their three-year plan, Gunn responded by saying “I hereby debunk it (only because it’s not true)”.

The impromptu Twitter Q&A continued, with Gunn also addressing the fact that the same article seemed to claim that Ezra Miller might be kept on as The Flash, stating that “some executives are amenable to continuing with the actor”. Gunn responded by saying “I don’t know what’s out there about Ezra”, but did clarify that their DC slate will be “8 to 10 years”, with only some of it announced this month.

At this point in time it might be worth heeding the advice of someone who has kept his costume (for now) during the big DC shake-up, and that’s Shazam!‘s Zachary Levi, who said recently “be patient and give them some space and some time to try and really make something special”.
