The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers series cancelled at Disney+

February 20, 2023 by EJ Moreno

The Mighty Ducks will no longer skate at Disney+.

The recent follow-up series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, has been canceled by the streaming service. While no one knows, the rumblings are that Bob Iger’s new stricter control over Disney could have led to the axing. It was long rumored that the renewal of the little-watched series led to the firing of longtime Disney exec Peter Rice.

Game Changers premiered in March 2021 and featured Lauren Graham as a new character, coach Alex Morrow, and Emilio Estevez reprised his role from the movies as Gordon Bombay. After Season 1, though, Estevez exited in response COVID vaccination requirement, and Josh Duhamel stepped in for Season 2, which premiered last September—the second season also featured Fulton Reed and Dean Portman, aka the Bash Brothers (played by Elden Henson and Aaron Lohr, who reprised their Mighty Ducks roles).

Along with the Mighty Ducks spin-off, Disney+ also canceled Big Shot, with the John Stamos-led basketball dramedy also axed after two seasons.

“After winning back the Mighty Ducks team name last year, the squad-with-heart and their coach Alex Morrow (Lauren Graham) take to the road to attend an intense summer hockey institute in California run by charming yet hardcore former NHL player, Colin Cole (Josh Duhamel). It’s a place for kids to get excellent at hockey — without school to get in the way. As our Ducks try to survive in this super-competitive environment, they’re faced with the question: Can you win summer?”

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream on Disney+.
