Transformers One animated movie rolls out cast with Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson and more

April 28, 2023 by Ricky Church

If you thought you’d have enough Transformers news with Paramount releasing the official trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, think again. The studio has rolled out the voice cast for Transformers One, the animated prequel that will explore the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron, with Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder) and Brian Tyree Henry (Bullet Train) leading the cast as the future Autobot and Decepticon leaders.

Starring alongside them is Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key (The Super Mario Bros. Movie) as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm (Top Gun: Maverick) as Sentinel Prime and Laurence Fishburne (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Alpha Trion.

The cast was announced during Paramount’s presentation at CinemaCon by Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito. “I’m so excited and proud to be working with Hasbro and eOne to bring the first animated Transformers movie to theaters for a never-before-told story,” she said to the audience. “I’m honored to have such incredible talents come together to portray these well-known and much-loved characters in an origin story at the heart of the franchise.”

The logline for Transformers One states that the film will “tell the story of how a young Optimus Prime (Hemsworth) and Megatron (Henry) went from being brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies.”

Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4) will direct a script written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man & The Wasp) with Steven Spielberg producing alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian and Aaron Dem.

Transformers One is set for release on July 19th, 2024.
