The Flash already has a sequel script, which includes Michael Keaton & Sasha Calle

June 5, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Although The Flash is intended to springboard the DC Extended Universe into the new DC Studios-backed reset, there’s already been some potential rumblings that it may not mark the end of Ezra Miller’s time as Barry Allen, and now comes word that Warner Bros. and DC actually have a completed script in hand for The Flash 2.

Variety recently did a piece concerning how Warner Bros. Discovery will handle Ezra Miller during the upcoming press tour on The Flash, but they also spilled the deets on a potential follow-up film. The trade notes that Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick already has a script for a possible sequel.

The script is reportedly completed, and the best part? It could feature more Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. Both actors have spoken highly about their experience with this project and have seemed willing to return, but the ever-changing state of DC Studios has put any plans on pause.

At the time of writing, the only remaining DCEU-related projects beyond The Flash are this summer’s Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, coming out this holiday season. After that, there are plans for James Gunn and Peter Safran to launch their take on the DC Universe in a phase dubbed “Gods and Monsters.” The new DC Studios starts with Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, released on July 11, 2025.

There’s no confirmation on The Flash 2 at the time of writing, although James Gunn has previously left the door open for Ezra Miller to potentially continue in the role of the Scarlet Speedster post DC reset.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti (It) and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash alongside Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (Batman), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora-Ul), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ron Livingston (Henry Allen), and Maribel Verdu (Nora Allen).

The Flash is set for release on June 16th, 2023.
