Deadpool 3 star says the film is “hard R” and to “not underestimate Ryan Reynolds”

July 9, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Deadpool 3 is looking to make big and bold choices with its first outing under Marvel Studios, but don’t think that will stifle the creativity of the production.

One of the actors involved in the production, Karan Soni, is opening up filming the third Deadpool and claims the film is just as violent and wild.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, the actor spills new details on the project and confirms its brutality, stating: “I have begun working on that one, so I can say that it is the same as the other two. It’s like hard R. There’s a lot of that stuff. So it does not feel different,” says Soni. “The only thing that, for me, is different is that I have not gotten the script this time. The other two we did get it. It’s a big difference, at least for me, the MCU part of it vs. the Fox/Marvel part of it. They’re so strict. So I’ve only seen glimpses of what I’m in.”

He continues, adding that Ryan Reynolds is pushing hard to make this feel unique, “When I did some of the stuff, I saw some things that I didn’t know were in the thing. I think I would just say it this way: Ryan [Reynolds] doesn’t need to do any of these movies unless he gets to do his version of it, and he is such a star, and I don’t need to say this, a creative genius. He’s taking this opportunity and really pushing everything, and, definitely, he’s doing a lot of cool stuff. I feel very optimistic about it.”

Soni finishes by reinforcing how strong this creative team is for Deadpool 3: “Him and [director] Shawn [Levy], they work so well together that I think it will be really exciting for people to see how they take their collaborations that they’ve done, now successfully twice, in this new version and play in this massive sandbox with a lot of stuff. It is very, very exciting. I will not underestimate Ryan Reynolds.”

The film is set to star Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool veterans Stefan Kapacic (Colossus), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), and Rob Delaney (Peter) as well as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and new additions Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin in as yet unspecified roles.

Free Guy helmer Shawn Levy directs Deadpool 3, which will mark Marvel Studios’ first R-rated release. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but expect to see Deadpool and Wolverine on some kind of multiverse-spanning fourth wall-breaking adventure that serves as a farewell to Fox’s Marvel universe and merging into the MCU.

Deadpool 3 arrives in cinemas on May 4th, 2024.
