James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has some arguably iconic casting, some that will stick with Marvel fans for decades. But we almost had a very different Star-Lord to lead the team.
On a recent episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast, actor Adam Brody revealed that he was in talks for the role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord. As the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, it would be a career-defining role for those involved, and sadly Brody reveals he failed the audition.
“I wanted that one,” he says before adding that he knew Chris Pratt was the “better” fit. “He is bigger, stronger, but tonally, I really dug it.”
The actor seemed to miss out on a few roles he wanted; in the same interview, he noted that he auditioned for the Dumb and Dumber prequel, Dumber and Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd. “I’m like, ‘I don’t give a fuck. I would love to just be Lloyd Christmas,'” Brody recalls.
Pratt would get the role and eventually star in multiple Marvel projects, including the record-breaking hit that was Avengers: Endgame., as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 , which has hit streaming and is currently playing now on Disney+.

Brody did get to flex his superhero muscles however in 2019 as the super-powered adult incarnation of Freddy Freeman alongside Zachary Levi in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Shazam!, a role he reprised for this year’s sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
