It looks like 1999’s Cruel Intentions is set to become the latest movie to make the jump to the small screen, with Variety reporting that NBC has placed a pilot order for a TV sequel to the film, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon.
The potential series sees will take place some 15 years after the movie, and “follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil, the character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the ’90s flick, as she vies for control of Valmont International, as well as the soul of Bash Casey, who is the son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (Phillippe in the film), and Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon). Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.”
Roger Kumble, writer and director of the original movie, is attached to direct the pilot, as well as serving as executive producer alongside Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, both of whom co-wrote the script.
