Marvel Studios delays entire movie slate, leaving Deadpool 3 as sole 2024 release

November 10, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Just as The Marvels opens worldwide, Marvel Studios adjusts its upcoming slate.

In the ever-shifting landscape of the MCU, many braced themselves for some changes after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, but no one saw this coming. With one of the studio’s biggest shocks in some time, they’ve wiped the slate clean and left only one project for a 2024 release.

Deadpool 3 will stay in the new year but has been pushed to July 2024. It takes over the old Captain America: Brave New World date that Marvel had slated. And what happens with the fourth Captain America film that was reportedly done? Poor test screenings have allegedly sent the film for massive reshoots, which involves readjusting three of the film’s most significant scenes. Captain America: Brave New World will now come out in February 2024.

As for the other two films that Marvel had planned for 2024 (yes, there were almost four MCU movies in one year), Thunderbolts takes the July 25, 2025 slot, and Blade will be released November 7, 2025.

While a bit surprising, this is on track for what Bob Iger said during Disney’s earnings call on Nov. 8 when he stated that the company wants to focus on quality over quantity. With Deadpool 3 reportedly being a vital part of the MCU future, the extra time and sole focus will allow the filmmakers and fans to soak it in.

For present-day Marvel they’ve just wrapped Loki Season 2 and premiered their latest blockbuster, The Marvels, which is currently playing in cinemas.
