Scott Derrickson is back for The Black Phone 2

December 26, 2023 by EJ Moreno

In one of 2022’s scariest outings, Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone was a smash hit for Blumhouse.

While a sequel was obvious, it wasn’t confirmed that Derrickson would return for another outing. After some hesitation, it seems like confirmation has come in the form of one of the film’s producers.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, franchise producer Ryan Turek let it be down that there’s no Black Phone 2 without Derrickson.

“Yeah, Scott’s coming back,” states Turek. “I think it’s too early to talk about anything else regarding that, but yeah [Derrickson’s returning].”

This comes after the filmmaker confirmed the talks were happening but didn’t want to jinx anything. “It’s possible. It’s not a definite thing, but if it does become definite, you’ll be the first to hear,” Derrickson said back in October. “I can tell you this much: I wouldn’t make a Black Phone sequel without Ethan. I don’t think there’d be any point in doing that.”

Ethan Hawke (Training Day), Mason Thames (Doctor Strange), Madeleine McGraw (Secrets of Sulphur Springs), Jeremy Davies (LOST) and Miguel Mora (The Black Phone) are all set to reprise their roles for The Black Phone 2.

Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Featuring alongside Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames in the cast of The Black Phone are James Ransone (It Chapter Two), Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4) and Jeremy Davies (Saving Private Ryan).

The Black Phone 2 is set for release on June 27th 2025.
