David Ayer is “done with DC” and Suicide Squad: The Ayer Cut

January 6, 2024 by EJ Moreno

For years, filmmaker David Ayer wanted fans to see his version of 2016’s Suicide Squad.

The film was publically and infamously changed at the last minute, partly due to the poor reaction from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice a few months before. Ayer often spoke about not getting a fair shot and wanted to really showcase what he had in store, but that didn’t heat up until the Release The Snyder Cut movement paid off.

Ayer heated up his comments, stating that he could put together a version of Suicide Squad that would be much better than what we have. Years have gone by, and there’s no movement. Due to that, it seems like Ayer is moving on with his career ahead of his new film’s release this month.

The director declares on social media, “I’m done with DC.”

Ayer confirms he’s over all things Ayer Cut. “Nope. Done and done. Very sad. You’ll be fine after a good cry. I feel healthier. It’s a wound that needs to heal. Nothing about the situation feels good. Studio has no interest in releasing it. It’s time to run and not look back.”

When another commenter says Ayer will “flip-flop” about this as he’s done over the years, the filmmaker promises this is over. He posts, “Naw I’m good. Don’t need to be walking around with a begging bowl. Gonna protect my heart more moving forward.”

David Ayer is promoting the Jason Statham-led The Beekeeper, set for release this coming week. Watch the trailer here.

In The Beekeeper, one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.”

The Beekeeper arrives in cinemas on January 12th and features a cast that includes Jason Statham, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons.
