Rachel Brosnahan promises Superman: Legacy “will have a sense of humor”

January 17, 2024 by EJ Moreno

If you were worried about a more dour or serious Superman, fear not, as Superman: Legacy promises to have some fun.

For years, the common complaint around Zack Snyder’s take on Superman, which was brought to life by Henry Cavill, was the lack of hope and the bright energy of the Christopher Reeve era. Now, it looks like the upcoming return of Superman will be as light as fans would hope.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, new Lois Lane actor Rachel Brosnahan gave us some of the first actual details about the project, and she took the opportunity to let fans know the tone to come.

“I think this [new] Superman will have a sense of humor,” says Brosnahan of the James Gunn-directed Superman: Legacy. “I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with James Gunn so far. Every single person involved in this production is such a perfect nerd for Superman. We all grew up watching the movies. Some of us were reading the comics.”

“So I feel like it’s being made with so much love,” the actress continues. “And I think this Superman will have a sense of humor. We’re excited to both put our own spin on things and honor the material we love so much.”

“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer.

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
