Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! with new Universal Monsters series from Skybound

January 17, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Following on from its current Dracula series, Skybound Entertainment is set to expand its Universal Monsters comic book line with Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! from writers Dan Watters (Lucifer) and Ram V (Detective Comics) and artist Matthew Roberts (Manifest Destiny).

As per THR, the upcoming four-issue limited series will connect to the classic 1954 movie but takes place in the present day as  journalist Kate Marsden hunts the notorious serial killer Darwin Collier in the heart of the Amazon. Hot on the trail of this madman, she soon encounters an unexpected new threat – the Creature from the Black Lagoon – and must determine if he is friend or foe.

“Dan Watters and Ram V are two of the most exciting writers in comics, and to be able to turn them loose with longtime Skybound creators Matthew Roberts and Dave Stewart has been an absolute treat,” states Skybound editorial director Alex Antone. “And while James & Martin’s Dracula was an adaptation of the original film, Creature is a brand-new story featuring beloved Gill-Man.”

Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! #1 will go on sale on April 24th.
