The Coen Brothers reuniting to direct “a pure horror film”

January 30, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

The Coen Brothers are reportedly set to collaborate on a project for the first time in six years, one that they have described as being “a pure horror film”.

Revered Fargo and The Big Lebowski filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen haven’t worked on a movie since 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, but now they’ve confirmed that they’ve written a script together and they plan to direct it very soon.

As per World of Reel’s story, Ethan Coen was speaking at the Tromso International Film Festival in Norway when he dropped a brief description of what you can expect from the brother’s long-overdue next outing, revealing “It’s a pure horror film, and it gets very bloody. If you like Blood Simple, I think you’ll enjoy it.”

Next up for Ethan Coen is his solo directorial outing Drive Away Dolls, a comedy-caper that stars Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, Pedro Pascal and Matt Damon. This follows brother Joel’s turn with 2021’s critically-acclaimed The Tragedy of Macbeth.
