Marvel’s Avengers 5 drops The Kang Dynasty from its title

February 21, 2024 by EJ Moreno

In a not-so-shocking update to the upcoming Avengers 5, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Marvel Studios will no longer be calling the fifth outing its original name of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

During a piece looking at how the MCU must retool itself, given recent backlash and overall superhero fatigue, the outlet also spoke about the Jonathan Majors issue and what to do with Kang. With the actor being arrested and the ongoing controversy around his name, Marvel Studios will no longer move ahead with Kang as the main villain.

However, it was noted in the report that Marvel was reportedly making moves away from Kang even before Jonathan Majors was fired. That decision came not long after Majors’ Kang failed to make a splash with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, given how it underperformed, grossing $476 million.

The fifth Avengers has gone through some changes in recent months. First, we had Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton exiting the director’s chair in November. Then screenwriter Michael Waldron stepped in for a new script, replacing former Rick and Morty writer Jeff Loveness.

Avengers 5 remains set for release on May 1st 2026, with the still-titled Avengers: Secret Wars slated for 2027.
