Fantastic Four star Joseph Quinn talks Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm and making the role his own

April 19, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Joesph Quinn knows playing Johnny Storm isn’t an easy task. The Human Torch has been portrayed twice over three 20th Century Fox films, played by Chris Evans in 2005 and 2007 and Michael B. Jordan in 2015.

With Quinn taking over the role for Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios, it’s time for the actor to step in without hesitation. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Quinn reveals he’s seen what’s come before but has his own plan.

“I remember really enjoying Chris Evans’ performance as Johnny in the previous films, and it felt like this would be a really exciting opportunity; I was absolutely signed up,” says the Stranger Things actor, stressing that that he went into the role and the project without what came before him in mind: “No. I mean, you’re going to make it your own. It’s big boots [to fill].”

“I knew that they’d been talking about making the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Universe for a while,” Quinn continues. “I had a talk with [director] Matt [Shakman], and it was very clear with the kind of people who they were attaching to it what they were trying to do with it. There are aspects of it that are very much a singular thing and its own thing.”

If you aren’t familiar with Joesph Quinn’s work, he’s one of the rising stars in Hollywood right now. He broke into the mainstream by playing fan-favorite Eddie Munson on Stranger Things. After a heated race, he landed the role of Johnny Storm earlier this year.

Fantastic Four is set for release in 2025. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Quinn as Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch.

Quinn will next star in this summer’s A Quiet Place: Day One. The trailer for that is below…
