Amazon no longer moving forward with Silk: Spider Society series

May 17, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

In the same week that it was announced Nicolas Cage is set to play Spider-Man Noir in a live-action Sony series for MGM+ and Prime Video, their first intended Marvel comic collaboration, Silk: Spider Society, has been cancelled by the streamer.

Per Deadline, the years in development series, which was being overseen by longtime The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang, has been handed back to Sony Pictures Television, who will shop the superhero series around to potential buyers.

Based on the character created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Silk: Spider Society follows Cindy Moon, a young Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider that granted Peter Parker his amazing abilities. The series was meant to serve as the first instalment of an ambitious interconnected Marvel TV universe which has been in the works since 2019 under Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

No official reason has been given for Amazon MGM Studios decision, but reports suggest that the series was only ever going to come to fruition if a good script could be found, and that after three attempts and numerous delays, Silk: Spider Society has been shelved.
