Jeremy Renner keen on Mission: Impossible return

May 30, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Having survived his own real-life Mission: Impossible following his near-fatal snow-plough accident, Jeremy Renner has hinted that he’d like to take another assignment with the IMF in a future installment of the blockbuster espionage franchise.

Renner, who played William Brandt in 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and 2015’s Mission: Impossible -Rogue Nation, was speaking with Collider about the upcoming third season of Mayor of Kingstown when the subject of his Mission: Impossible departure came up.

Renner explained that the demanding filming schedule was at odds with his role as a new father, saying “Yeah. I had to leave that. I was supposed to do more with them. I love those guys. I love Tom so much. We had so much fun, and I love that character a lot. It requires a lot of time away. It’s all in London. I had to go be a dad. It just wasn’t gonna work out then.”

Since he went AWOL from the IMF two further films have been released – 2018’s Mission Impossible: Fallout and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – but now Renner has hinted that he’d be open to a return, adding “Maybe now that my daughter is older that could happen. I’d always jump into a Mission: Impossible anytime and back into Brandt. It’s great.”
