Paul Giamatti to star in Hostel TV series from Eli Roth

June 4, 2024 by EJ Moreno

For the sickos who’ve always wanted to see Paul Giamatti starring in something horror-related, this is your moment.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Giamatti “will star in a key role” in Hostel, an upcoming television adaptation of the Eli Roth horror film. At the time of writing, character details are under wraps.

Eli Roth, Chris Briggs, and Mike Fleiss are all returning for the project from Fifth Season, the studio behind the franchise. The Hostel series is being described as “a modern adaptation” and an “elevated thriller.”

Roth is set to direct with the filmmaker and Briggs penning the script. Little is known about the story or if it will have any connections to the films.

In 2013, the actor recalled when he first crossed paths with Roth and planned to do something together, but it never came to be. He told EW then, “Eli was shooting Hostel in Prague, and I was shooting The Illusionist, and I met him. We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie, but it never panned out.”

This project follows Roth’s recent directorial horror effort, 2023’s Flickering Myth Horror Awards-winning slasher Thanksgiving. This won’t be Roth’s first foray into television, as he helmed the pilot of Hemlock Grove and recently worked on Dreamworks’ TV show Fright Krewe.

Legendary actor Giamatti is fresh off his Oscar nomination for The Holdovers. Following his seven-season run on Showtime’s Billions, he’s also no stranger to television.
