Kevin Costner confirms Yellowstone exit ahead of series return this November

June 22, 2024 by EJ Moreno

With Yellowstone finally returning, one of the key figures is gone.

The Taylor Sheridan series has been on an interminable hiatus since January 2023, and now we have official confirmation that Kevin Costner will not be back for the second half of Season 5 when the show resumes in November.

In a new post, Costner revealed his excitement for the series’ return but broke the upsetting news.

“I want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love, that I know you love, I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5 or into the future,” he said. “It was something that really changed me. I loved it. And I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning, and I love the relationship we’ve been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”

It should be added that Costner told People that there’s an opening somewhere in the future for a return. He tells the outlet, “I’ve always felt that…It might be an interesting moment to come back and finish the mythology of this modern-day family. And if that happens, I would step into it if I agreed with how it was being done … In the very end, I couldn’t do any more for it than I had already done.”

The second half of Yellowstone‘s fifth and final season will premiere on November 10 on the Paramount Network. Internationally, Yellowstone will premiere on Paramount+ in Canada on November 10, the U.K. on November 11, and in Latin America, Brazil, and France later in November.
