Camila Mendes exits I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot

September 5, 2024 by Ricky Church

One cast member from the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot has fallen, though not to mysterious slasher killers but scheduling conflicts. According to Deadline, Riverdale actress Camila Mendes has exited the project.

Mendes was recently cast in Amazon MGM’s Masters of the Universe opposite Nicholas Galitzine. Mendes will play Teela, one of Eternia’s Royal Guards charged with protecting Galitzine’s Prince Adam, who gains the power to turn into the universe’s protector He-Man.

With her role in the upcoming sci-fi fantasy, Mendes was unable to make the production dates work as they overlapped along with a likely intense shoot and training she will have to undergo for Masters of the Universe.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in 1997 and followed a group of teens who were involved in a hit-and-run one summer, leaving the man to die and covering up their involvement. The following summer they are each stalked by a mysterious man who claims to know what they did and may be the man they hit.

The reboot will star Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta) and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid) with original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reportedly in talks to reprise their roles. It will be directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) from a script co-written by Robinson and Sam Lansky with Leah McKendrick writing the initial draft.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is currently set for July 18th, 2025.
