Soulsborne-inspired stealth game Banshee: Demon Girl unveiled at Tokyo Game Show

September 27, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Indie developer False Prophet Studio has unveiled their latest project Banshee: Demon Girl at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.  Inspired by soulsborne games, Banshee: Demon Girl blends games such as Sekiro, Tenchu and Red Ninja with unique gameplay elements.  Watch the premiere teaser trailer below…

Set during Japan’s Sengoku period, Banshee: Demon Girl follows a kunoichi (a female shinobi warrior) as she arrives on a secret mission with the first Japanese Embassy in Europe.  In an act of horrifying betrayal the young woman dies a gruesome death and her restless spirit returns as a demon (a Japanese demon not a Christian religion one) to seek vengeance.

As Banshee, players will be able to fight using Japanese swords and parry enemy death blows without an ounce of fatigue. She also has the ability to send away or devour restless souls to grow in strength and discover mysterious secrets.  Use those shinobi skills to raise fear and terror in European medieval towns and castles of the devil incarnate in a beautiful human body.

False Prophet’s founder and CEO, Piotr Pacynko, said: “With our previous game release ‘BEAST’, we waited for years during development to ask players for feedback. This time, we’re starting off early explaining the vision for the game and showcasing a first look demo of this vision to a genre fan expert audience such as the Japanese players. The soulsborne genre is close to our hearts and so is Japanese and European history, we wanted to find a strong way using all our previous industry experience to combine those and tell a unique larger than life story using a fresh way to play this type of genre.”

Banshee: Demon Girl is looking at a PC early access release date of September 2025.  Look out for more news coming on this title in the future.
