Doctor Who: The Lost Stories drama to reveal the Genesis of the Cybermen

October 7, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions have announced a new audio drama coming to their Doctor Who – The Lost Stories range in March 2025.  This acclaimed range of audio dramas takes story ideas proposed during the classic era of Doctor Who and finally gives them life.  In this new full-cast drama Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor takes on one of the Doctor’s greatest enemies in Genesis of the Cybermen.

Genesis of the Cybermen was a story first penned by Gerry Davis, one of the Cybermen’s original creators, in the 1980’s but was rejected at the time.  Now, having been adapted by David K Barnes, fans can hear about the Fifth Doctor’s exploits and the origin of one of the Doctor’s most infamous enemies.

On the planet Mondas, a King is dying and his youngest son works tirelessly in his laboratory in an attempt to save their race from a slow extinction.  When the TARDIS arrives, the Fifth Doctor (played by Peter Davison) and his companions Tegan (Janet Fielding), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) and Adric (Matthew Waterhouse) believe they can help the people from dying, but what they are about to witness is the genesis of the Cybermen.

Producer and director David O’Mahony said: “Gerry Davis’s ideas about their origin never made it onto TV, so it’s a total pleasure to bring this story to life with Peter Davison’s Doctor. Setting it pre-Earthshock gives it the feel of a brilliant prequel to the impending Cybermen stories that we know and love.”

Doctor Who – The Lost Stories: Genesis of the Cybermen is available to pre-order now as a collector’s edition 2-disc CD and digital download for £16.99, or download only for £13.99.

Audio drama fans can also pre-order this, along with 2025’s second Doctor Who – The Lost Stories adventure, for £32 for Collector’s Edition CD and download, or £26 for the download only.
