Netflix adapting Pride and Prejudice as limited series

October 12, 2024 by Ricky Church

A new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice is on the way. Netflix will develop the book into a limited series with Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) writing the series.

Austen published Pride and Prejudice in 1813 as her follow up novel to Sense and Sensibility. It follows “the intelligent yet stubborn Elizabeth Bennet as she learns that love is more powerful than pride or prejudice through her relationship with Mr. Darcy, a man she initially dislikes but eventually falls for.”

Several adaptations of Pride and Prejudice have been made whether on film, TV, stage or even parody with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The most famous modern adaptation is considered to be the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice which starred Kiera Knightly as Elizabeth Bennet and Mathew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy.

Alderton is known for her memoir Everything I Know About Love, which was adapted into a limited series on BCC and Peacock in 2022, and released her latest book Good Material last year.

We’ll have to wait and see who ends up directing this new take on Austen’s classic as well as who will be the new Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Check back here later once we have more information…
