First look at Barry Keoghan in the Peaky Blinders film

November 2, 2024 by Ricky Church

With production on the Peaky Blinders feature film underway, we have our first look at Barry Keoghan’s character who is seemingly a new member of the Peaky Blinders gang.

Peaky Blinders is based off the Shelby crime family which operated in Birmingham for the early 20th century. The series focused on Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby as he took charge of the family in the post-World War I era and sought to expand the Peaky Blinders’ influence throughout the UK, often coming into conflict with rival gangs and mob bosses.

Keoghan and Murphy previously starred together in Christopher Nolan’s World War II drama Dunkirk, where Keoghan played a fisherman one of the civilian rescue boats and Murphy as a soldier they rescued who is struggling with PTSD from the Nazi invasion.

The Peaky Blinders series finale saw Tommy give up leadership of the Blinders to his sister Ava as he left Birmingham and the life of the Blinders behind. The film’s plot is being kept under wraps, but it will pick up several years after the series’ conclusion during World War II as Tommy is brought back into the fold.

“I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders,” said series creator Steven Knight. Knight wrote the script while Tom Harper is directing.

Peaky Blinders will feature Cillian Murphy, Sophie Rundle, Stephen Graham, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee and Ian Peck reprising their series roles for the film. Newcomers include Rebecca Ferguson (Dune), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), Tim Roth (The Hateful Eight) and Jay Lycurgo (I May Destroy You).
