Exclusive Interview – Alessandro De Gennaro discusses Here Comes Your Man on Amazon Prime

November 14, 2024 by Amie Cranswick

In an exclusive interview, Flickering Myth sat down with Venezuelan-born lead actor Alessandro De Gennaro to talk about acting in Los Angeles, and his role in season 2 of the Amazon Prime TV show Here Comes Your Man.

Hi Alessandro De Gennaro, welcome to Flickering Myth! What sets you apart from other actors?

I think my multi-cultural background, as I grew up speaking Spanish, Italian and English, and my drive. I may not be the most talented actor out there, I may not have the most celebrity look, but what I do have is passion, dedication, drive and most important… persistence.

Persistence is key in Hollywood. Congrats on your leading role in season 2 of Here Comes Your Man. Can you tell us about the TV show and the role you played?

Yes so, Here Comes Your Man follows two very different young men who come together in a show that follows their relationship, from beginning to end.

I play Julio. He is one of the main story characters in the second season of this show. After Aaron (the protagonist) breaks up with Jordan in season 1, Aaron meets Julio, and they begin to go out together. Julio is a person that doesn’t really believe in relationships and has always been closed to opening himself up to loving somebody and being close to somebody. This is, until he meets Aaron and slowly as the series progresses, he begins to fall more and more in love with him.

Julio is a Hispanic/American character and by far the character that had the biggest impact for the audience in the second season of Here Comes Your Man.

Can you share any interesting facts from the set?

Actually, yes. I consider myself absolutely straight, but as being emerged in the character of Julio, I was absolutely crazy for my scene partner playing Aaron. I would feel so attracted to him the entire time on set, but then that would turn off the second I got in the transportation back home!

How did you get involved in the project?

I reached out to the director, since I met him once outside of the theater where I performed for a play. I read the breakdown of the character of Julio and told him that I was perfect for this role and for him to please give me a chance to audition.

That is so LA! How can we watch the show?

You can see it in the streaming platform DEKKOO or by logging into Amazon Prime USA.

As a Venezuelan-born actor navigating Hollywood, how do your roots and heritage influence your work and the roles you choose?

It has influenced me in a way that I want to bring life to characters that most people wouldn’t see Hispanics being a part of. Being able to mix my heritage and prove its adaptability to any story.

In today’s Hollywood, there is a significant push for greater inclusivity and representation. How do you see your work contributing to this movement, and what changes do you still hope to see in the industry?

I would love to see my work contributing in this way by being able to show the industry that any heritage can represent an American nowadays. That there are infinite stories that come from many heritages that are worth setting our eyes into.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for accepting me and supporting me the way I am and in every aspect of my life. Supporting my personal decisions, my accomplishments, but most importantly my failures and my mistakes.

Love that! How can people find and follow your journey?

My work can be found on IMDb and Instagram.

Our thanks to Alessandro De Gennaro for taking the time for this interview, and to Liz Rodriguez from EMR Media for helping us with the interview.
