Daredevil: Born Again actor reveals massive time jump from Netflix series

December 7, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Wilson Bethel is set to return as Benjamin ‘Dex’ Poindexter for Daredevil: Born Again and is already breaking that rule of keeping Marvel secrets.

With his character last seen almost becoming Bullseye, we’ll likely see that result unfold as Bethel hints at a massive time jump between the original Netflix series and the new Marvel / Disney relaunch. Via Collider, the actor was speaking at Fan Expo San Francisco and disclosed this story update.

“I think one of the things that’s interesting is, I mean, maybe it’s different on a sitcom or something like that, but if you’re on a show for over a period of time and the characters are aging together sort of in real-time, and if the show is well written and the writers are sort of responding to that reality transpiring, the wrinkles of their hair, et cetera, then in theory, the character is evolving in a way, whether or not the show was on air,” states Bethel.

“So there’s kind of like this funny thing stepping back after five years where Born Again will pick up with that amount of time having transpired,” he continued. “The show doesn’t pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later. So, in theory, these are characters who have all lived five years of life and all of the twists and turns that you take in the meantime. So whether or not even those stories are necessarily on screen, there’s just that little extra bit of life in there, which I think is… as an actor, it gives you an opportunity to bring whatever your own journey has been in that time, and they get sort of a little longer in the tooth.”

Daredevil: Born Again was originally planned as a reboot of the Netflix series, albeit with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as variants of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, although the decision was made to retool the project, bringing the previous Netflix shows into the MCU timeline proper.

In Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again,” Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

Joining Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the cast of Daredevil: Born Again are Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer and Jon Bernthal.

Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ on March 4th in the US and March 5th in the UK.
