Montezuma’s Revenge – The 40th Anniversary Edition coming to Steam in January 2025

December 12, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Back in 1984, a chap called Robert Jaeger developed a platformer called Montezuma’s Revenge for the 8-bit computers and consoles. Releasing on just about everything of the time, from Ztari 2600 to ZX Spectrum, it wasn’t long before this game was well known to gamers. Now, 40 years on eastasiasoft has announced that Montezuma’s Revenge – The 40th Anniversary Edition will be arriving on Steam for PC on 16th January.  The game is also in development for consoles and is expected to launch later on in 2025.

Montezuma’s Revenge – The 40th Anniversary Edition will introduce a new generation of gamers to the adventure of the game’s protagonist Pedro, as he delves into the dangerous ruins of the 16th century Aztec temple.  Players will take control of Pedro, or his sister Rosita, and delve deep into the temple’s 100 deviously designed rooms to find riches and valuable artefacts. Make sure Pedro avoids the many perilous traps and vicious enemies as he collects the colour-coded keys to make progress through the temple.

Players will be able to enjoy the new vibrant 2.5D style while veteran gamers can wax nostalgically about the retro aesthetics as they run, jump and climb through the various chambers.

Additionally, a Deluxe Edition bundle will also be available on Steam and features an expanded Director’s Cut of the original version of the game.

Look out for Montezuma’s Revenge – The 40th Anniversary Edition arriving on Steam on 16th January 2025.
