Skybound resurrecting The Mummy for new Universal Monsters series

December 14, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have announced that they will expand their Universal Monsters line this March with the four-issue limited series Universal Monsters: The Mummy from Eisner Award winner and New York Times bestselling writer and artist Faith Erin Hicks (Pumpkinheads, The Nameless City Trilogy).

“What I enjoy the most about The Mummy is the romance underlying all the horror,” states Faith Erin Hicks. A mortal man defies ancient gods to bring his dead lover back to life and pays the ultimate price, transformed thousands of years later into a walking specter of death. The Mummy is intrinsically a tragic figure driven by his own pain and loss, his understandable human emotions twisted into acts. It’s been a thrill to tell this story from the point of view of Helen, the modern incarnation of The Mummy’s long dead love, and illustrate her growing awareness of the heartbroken horror that is lurking in the shadows of early 20th century Egypt. I hope fans of all versions of The Mummy enjoy my take on this romantically horrifying (or horrifyingly romantic) story.”

“Faith Erin Hicks’ take on The Mummy is singular and breathtaking,” adds Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “While she’s returning to her horror roots, it’s safe to say you’ve never seen Faith Erin Hicks like this before!”

Check out a first-look preview of The Mummy #1 here, along with covers from Faith Erin Hicks, Joshua Middleton, Guillem March, Martin Simmonds and Gabriel Rodriguez…

Universal Monsters: The Mummy #1 will go on sale in March 2025.
