More Time War adventures await the Doctor’s granddaughter in The Worlds of Doctor Who – Susan’s War: Grandfather Time

March 20, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Two new Time War missions await the War Doctor and Susan in the new The Worlds of Doctor Who – Susan’s War: Grandfather Time box set from Big Finish.  In these two new family outings for Susan, she must learn to work alongside this very different incarnation of her beloved grandfather.

Carol Ann Ford once again takes the role of the Doctor’s granddaughter, Susan, as she works alongside the War Doctor, played by Jonathon Carley, during the events of the catastrophic Time War.  The two new adventures in this box set are:

The Last of the Kaleds by David Llewellyn – Cardinal Rasmus (Damian Lynch) takes Susan and the War Doctor to a mysterious enclave who he wishes to form an alliance with. However, it turns out that the enclave is from Kaledon, a splinter of Skaro’s own distant timeline and some histories are inevitable.  As Susan and the War Doctor uncover plots and counter-plots, can she come to terms with her grandfather’s new persona?

From L to R: Nicholas Briggs, Carole Ann Ford, Jonathon Carley, Charlotte Strevens, Damian Lynch, Steven Elder.

After the failure of a Time Lord mission, Cardinal Rasmus sends in Susan and the War Doctor to find any survivors, particularly the mission’s leader – Rasmus’ own daughter.  When they arrive on the ocean moon of Sarros Minor, they find unlikely allies against the Daleks, but how much can Susan really trust the Voord?

From L to R: Andrew Smith, Paksie Vernon, Alice Osmanski, Carole Ann Ford, Jonathon Carley, Caleb Frederick and John Ainsworth.

Joining Carol Ann Ford, Jonathon Carley and Damian Lynch are Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks, Steven Elder as Grand Duke Cosimus/The Mechanic, Caleb Frederick as Sedrin/Marik, Alice Osmanski as Dareena, Charlotte Strevens as Countess Freya/Sisters of Fury and Paksie Vernon as Karita/Lenix.

The Worlds of Doctor Who – Susan’s War: Grandfather Time is now available to buy from the Big Finish website for £12.99  for the download or £15.99 for the download and limited collector’s edition CD box set.  A bundle is also available where listeners can purchase this and the previous Susan’s War volume, Family Ties.  Visit the Big Finish website for prices.
