Guy Ritchie eyeing Road House reboot sequel

April 7, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Road House could return with Guy Ritchie throwing his hat into the boxing ring for the sequel to last year’s remake.

Puck News reported over the weekend that Ritchie will take over the directing duties of this rebooted franchise, replacing Doug Liman. Will Beall is reportedly penning the script for this sequel.

The 2024 remake of Road House, directed by Liman and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, achieved extraordinary success. Over its first two weekends on Amazon Prime Video, the film attracted 50 million global viewers, making it Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched debut ever.

It also won’t be much of a surprise to those who followed the film’s release last year that director Doug Liman didn’t want to return for the sequel. It was reported that the decision to release the film exclusively on Prime Video, bypassing a theatrical run, sparked tension between the filmmaker and the studio.

Ritchie has been quite prolific recently, helming last year’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare for cinemas and dropping The Gentlemen series on Netflix. Just this year alone, he’s released the new Tom Hardy-led series MobLand and is awaiting the releases of Fountain of Youth on Apple TV+ [watch the trailer here] and In the Grey, which sees Ritchie teaming with Gyllenhaal alongside Henry Cavill and Eiza González.
