Johnny Depp’s Hollywood comeback Day Drinker gets first look at filming begins

April 15, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Having dabbled in French film and Spanish animation following his messy divorce and legal issues with ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is now gearing up to make his Hollywood return in Lionsgate’s Day Drinker, and the first image has been released to officially announce the start of production…

Day Drinker is directed by Marc Webb, who is fresh off the disastrous Snow White, and reunites Depp with his regular collaborator Penélope Cruz after their work together on Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Murder on the Orient Express.

Also featuring in the cast alongside Depp and Cruz are Madelyn Cline, Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto and Anika Boyle. The official synopsis reads:

In DAY DRINKER, a private-yacht bartender (Madelyn Cline) encounters a mysterious, onboard guest (Johnny Depp). They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Penélope Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming.

Day Drinker is currently shooting now in Spain ahead of a 2026 release. Webb is directing from a script by Adam Kolbrenner and Zach Dean, who are also producing with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road Pictures.
