Spring Breakers sequel Salvation Mountain announced with Bella Thorne and more

May 16, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Deadline has announced that a sequel to filmmaker Harmony Korine’s 2012 cult classic Spring Breakers is in the works, with the producers of the original film Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner reuniting for Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain.

The new film, a standalone, is being directed by Matthew Bright (Freeway) and will see Bella Thorne (The Babysitter) starring alongside Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), Ariel Martin (Zombies 2) and True Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem).

The quartet will play four rebellious Gen Z girls who hit the road for spring break, but “when their trip explodes out of control, they’re forced to outrun the chaos they’ve created.” The project is being shopped to potential buyers in Cannes, with Capture – a joint venture between Capstone Global and Signature Entertainment – financing and handling sales.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Christian and Capture on ‘Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain’ and excited to keep exploring bold, new, disruptive stories around that wild, fever dream of youth,” said Hanley and Gertner. “The desire for spring break to go on forever is something we’ve never let go of.”

Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers starred Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine as four college students who are taken under the wing of James Franco’s drug dealer as they delve into a world of crime and debauchery on spring break.

A different sequel – Spring Breakers: The Second Coming – was previously in development back in 2014, along with a TV spinoff in 2017, although both of those projects were ultimately abandoned.
