Mattel developing Whac-A-Mole movie with TriStar Pictures

May 26, 2025 by Gary Collinson

With its Matchbox movie in post-production and filming currently taking place on Masters of the Universe, Mattel Films is delving into its toy chest once more, teaming with TriStar Pictures for a live-action/animated hybrid Whac-A-Mole movie.

“Whac-A-Mole is more than a game — it’s a laugh-out-loud battle of reflexes that has brought joy and a little chaos to families for five decades,” said Mattel Films president Robbie Brenner. “We’re beyond excited to team up with TriStar Pictures to turn the iconic experience into a wild, action-packed ride for the big screen.”

“Mattel continues to create impact with their films, and Whac-A-Mole is no exception — a brand that has been in culture for generations,” added Nicole Brown, president of TriStar Pictures. “We look forward to partnering with them to bring audiences a fresh, unexpected take on this absolute classic.”

There’s no word yet on a writer or director for the Whac-A-Mole movie, but the project is being overseen by Elizabeth Bassin and Steve Spohr of Mattel Films and  Shary Shirazi and Kelseigh Coombs of TriStar Pictures.
