Backrooms Level X brings survival horror to Steam

May 29, 2025 by Andrew Newton

For those PC gamers who have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Backrooms Level X need wait no more as Firenut Games has announced the release of this chilling first-person survival horror on Steam. Those who dare to venture into this eerie place will experience an oppressive, atmospheric horror filled with mysterious entities and monstrous bosses. Watch the new launch trailer below…

When a strange incident occurred in Albuquerque in 1986, an individual caught it all on a video camera. This VHS cassette was lost for decades until now. After finding this VHS tape (probably at a car boot sale or something – that’s where most paranormal things are discovered) the player finds themselves trapped in the eerie labyrinth of corridors and rooms, where reality no longer applies.

Players are challenged to explore the warped, liminal spaces of the Backrooms and navigate the terrifying labyrinth of eerie yellow carpeted corridors and rooms and solve cunning puzzles to piece together a cryptic story. There are 13 expansive levels to explore and each with a host of nightmarish horrors wanting to make sure you never leave.

Featuring:

  • Uncover secrets and a gripping story set across a mysterious environment.
  • A horror-filled atmosphere with haunting visuals and an oppressive soundscape.
  • Cunningly designed challenges and puzzles.
  • Explore 13 levels, each with evolving threats to overcome.
  • Outsmart monstrous bosses and mysterious entities lurking in the shadows
  • Escape is not a guarantee.

Backrooms Level X is out now on PC via Steam for £9.99 / €9.99/ $9.99 with a limited-time 20% launch discount. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch versions will arrive at a later date.
