Chad Stahelski’s Highlander remake with Henry Cavill to shoot in September

June 4, 2025 by Ricky Church

As director Chad Stahelski prepares the John Wick spin-off Ballerina for its worldwide release this week, he will soon move onto his next big project which will be a remake of Highlander starring Man of Steel and The Witcher’s Henry Cavill.

Speaking with Deadline on the red carpet for Ballerina, Stahelski was asked where in the process he is to begin filming Highlander. The director has been attached to a remake since 2016 with Cavill chosen as the lead in 2021, so this particular film has been long in development for Stahelski. Fortunately, it is now a mere few months until cameras will start rolling.

“We’re in active prep right now,” he said to Deadline. “We plan to be shooting by mid-September, starting off in London. I hope it’s good.”

Released in 1986, Highlander followed Connor MacLeod, a Scottish Highlander born in the 1500s, who discovers he’s Immortal. Trained by Ramirez, another immortal, he fights others until, as the series’ tagline goes, there can be only one. The original film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor and Sean Connery as Ramirez.

Cavill will star as Connor MacLeod in the remake from a script written by John Wick: Chapter 4‘s Michael Finch with Amazon MGM having recently acquired the rights to the film. Production will begin in September in London.
