The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 begins production with three new cast additions

June 12, 2025 by Ricky Church

The third season of Amazon MGM’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has begun production with three new additions were made to its cast. Joining the series are Andrew Richardson (Ponies), Zubin Varla (Andor) and Adam Young (Masters of the Air).

There are no details on who the trio are playing as of yet. The third season will begin with a big time jump where Middle-earth is now in open war against Sauron as he tries to complete building the One Ring to take control of all Middle-earth.

The Rings of Power stars Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Markella Kavanaugh as Elanor Brandyfoot and Charlie Vickers as Sauron among a much larger ensemble. New additions to the season also include Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things) and Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan).

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will continue to showrun and executive produce the series with Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell and director Charlotte. Directing Season 3 will be Brändström, Sanaa Hamri and Stefan Schwartz.

Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.
