Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor returns for Doctor Who: Time War – Uncharted: Pursuit

June 19, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Fans of Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor can now enjoy a new audio adventure from Big Finish Productions. Doctor Who: Time War – Uncharted: Pursuit follows on from the dramatic climax of last year’s box set Time War – Uncharted: Reflections which saw the Doctor’s great-grandson Alex stealing the TARDIS. This new box-set features four full-cast, hour-long adventures.

In this new box set, the Doctor, having been turned against Alex and Cass, is assisted by Hieronyma Friend, the duplicitous temporal diplomat with the ability to appear with faces of the Doctor’s old companions. This time, Hieronyma Friend wears the faces of Tamsin Drew and Gemma Griffin, voiced by Niky Wardley and Lizzie Hopley.

The four new adventures in this box set are:

‘Spoil of War’ by Mark Wright – When Alex and Cass arrive at a sinister looking stately home, they find that they were expected. With other guests also assembling at the mansion for an exclusive auction, the pair wonder what  unique item are they bidding on.  Meanwhile, the Doctor and Hieronyma Friend are beginning to catch up.

The ‘Tale of Alex’ by Katharine Armitage – Alex has earned the reputation of saviour of planets and righter of wrongs and his arrival on the planet Igg makes the locals joyous. However, the villainous Doctor has plans of his own and is getting closer.

From L to R: Felicity Cant, Lizzie Hopley, Sonny McGann, Emma Campbell-Jones, Clive Hayward

In ‘See-Saw’ by James Moran, Alex and Cass receive a distress signal which leads them to an abandoned 1920’s London. When the Doctor and Friend arrive at the same time and same place, they also find the city completely deserted, but why can’t they see each other and why can they hear unfinished nursery rhymes?

Finally, in ‘The First Forest’ by Tim Foley, the Doctor crash-lands in a strange woodland, surrounded by both friends and foes. How long will it take for the Doctor to realise he has travelled further than his people could possibly imagine, to a time before the Time Lords ever left their shores.

From L to R: Indra Ove, Sam Stafford, Niky Wardley, Paul McGann, Emma Campbell-Jones, Sonny McGann, Vineeta Rishi.

Joining Paul McGann in the voice cast are Sonny McGann, Emma Campbell-Jones, Dan Starkey as the Sontarans, Wanda Opalinska, Louise Faulkner, Sam Stafford, Indra Ové, Vineeta Rishi, Felicity Cant, Clive Hayward and John Ramm.
