2025’s Lilo & Stitch dominated, despite some polarizing fan reception, but imagine how well a sequel could do from the man who brought us the original?
THR notes Chris Sanders will return to pen the previously announced sequel to the smash hit remake. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes penned this year’s remake. As yet, there’s no word if director Dean Fleischer Camp will return.
In the report, it was noted that Sanders’ deal calls for him to write the script at the time, but not direct, as the filmmaker is currently focused on a sequel to The Wild Robot. Sanders will also return to voice Stitch as he has multiple times before.
Lilo & Stitch grossed over $1 billion worldwide on a budget of about $100 million, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 and the highest-grossing live-action/animated hybrid in history. It opened with $341 million worldwide, including a domestic three-day weekend of $145.5 million. It had one of the best openings of a Disney remake and performed like many of the live-action remakes.
