Relive Taito’s retro coin-op classics with Operation Night Strikers

August 8, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Revisit the glory days of arcade gaming with TAITO’s Operation Night Strikers, the latest offering from the masters of retro, Clear River Games. TAITO’s Operation Night Strikers is available on Steam and Nintendo Switch and brings four beloved old-school gems to gaming veterans and a new generation of gamers. Watch the new launch trailer below…

TAITO’s Operation Night Strikers features four classics: Operation Wolf, Operation Thunderbolt, Night Striker, and Space Gun. Back in the 80s, these provided endless fun to lovers of lightguns and driving games everywhere. Each game offered near-endless fun with a couple even making their way to home computers.

Operation Wolf provided gamers with the ultimate test of their lightgun skills. Armed only with a machine gun and rocket-propelled grenades, players had to rescue hostages, get them to the extraction point, and take out plenty of enemies.

Operation Thunderbolt saw the return of Operation Wolf’s hero Roy Adams, as players embarked on another hostage mission, this time to Africa. With more enemies, more excitement and more explosions, this sequel was more of the same but worth it.

Night Striker puts players in the role of an elite member of the UNSTAF’s (United Nations Special Tactical Action Force) unit. Tasked with destroying a terrorist organisation, players must use the high-speed combat hovercraft: Inter-Gray Xsi and face seemingly impossible odds in non-stop action and excitement.

Space Gun takes players to 2039 AD, to an age of space exploration. When a distress call from a cargo ship is received, it’s all hands on deck at the nearby space station. As a member of a team of crack space marines, players must use their multi-purpose rifle to take out hordes of monsters and rescue survivors and save the day.

Each game in the Operation Night Strikers compilation includes a wealth of quality-of-life features that modern gamers wouldn’t want to live without. Nintendo Switch players can use the Joy-Con motion sensing controls to replicate that lightgun feeling, plus both Switch and Steam gamers can use  a USB mouse or cursor aided controls to re-live the classic 80’s gameplay.

Operation Night Strikers is available digitally on Steam and Nintendo Switch now, with a physical edition coming to Switch on 23rd January 2026.
