Doctor Who – The Lost Stories: Alixion sees the return of the Seventh Doctor and Ace

September 17, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish has released a brand-new audio adaptation of an unproduced Doctor Who TV story in their Doctor Who – The Lost Stories series. This latest adventure, titled Alixion, finds the Seventh Doctor and Ace taking some time away from adventures to have a bit of downtime at a luxury retreat, but the relaxation doesn’t last for long, thanks to a sinister alien creature.

When the Doctor and Ace take time out at a luxury health spa they soon find themselves at the mercy of a malign entity that hides behind the polished walls. Exploiting their memories and regrets, this entity desires to conquer the whole of time and space, and it will even steal the Doctor’s life force to do it. Can the Doctor and Ace stop this threat before it kills him?

Alixion was originally commissioned from writer Robin Mukherjee in 1989 but was never made thanks to the foolish decision to cancel the TV show. Thankfully, Robin Mukherjee has now adapted the script himself for his Big Finish debut.

From L to R: Jon Edgley Bond, Beverly Longhurst,, Shri Patel, John Dorney, Robin Mukherjee, Mathew McQuinn, Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred

Sylvester McCoy said: “I wasn’t aware that this idea had come to fruition way back in 1989; if we’d have carried on with the fourth season, we would have done this story, and it was abandoned, and now they’ve brought it back. And it’s great, it’s a lovely story, full of humour and mystery, and wonderfully, wonderfully written.”

Doctor Who – The Lost Stories: Alixion is available to purchase from the Big Finish website now for £13.99 for the download or £16.99 for the download and collector’s edition 2-disc CD. A multi-buy bundle is also available with March’s Genesis of the Cybermen for £26 for the download or £32 for the download and collector’s edition CDs.
