Spider-Man: Brand New Day adds Marvin Jones III as Tombstone

September 24, 2025 by Ricky Church

While filming on Spider-Man: Brand New Day has paused due to Tom Holland’s on-set concussion, Marvel has announced a new villain has been brought in to fight everyone’s favourite wall-crawler. Joining Holland in the next MCU movie is Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, a role Jones will now be taking to live-action after providing Tombstone’s voice in the animated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

Born as Alonzo Thompson Lincoln, or sometimes known as Lonnie Lincoln, Tombstone is an albino African American and one of New York City’s toughest crime bosses. He was created by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk in Web of Spider-Man and has become one of Spider-Man’s most prominent villains. He has appeared in several pieces of Spider-Man media, most notably The Spectacular Spider-Man as one of the main antagonists and in the recent Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as one of Peter Parker’s friends.

Jones voiced Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse where he was one of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin’s henchmen. Jones will also provide his voice for Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse for Tombstone’s return in 2027. Tombstone has also often been an enemy to Daredevil, raising the possibility of Jones taking the role into one of the forthcoming seasons of Daredevil: Born Again alongside Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Little is known about Spider-Man: Brand New Day other than it takes place after Peter Parker’s identity has been erased from the entire population of Earth following the events of No Way Home. Returning with Holland are Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned while Michael Mando reprises his Spider-Man: Homecoming role as Marc Gargan/Scorpion.

Meanwhile, the film will introduce MCU newcomers Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Liza Colon-Zayas (The Bear) and Tramell Tillman (Severance) with all of their roles under wraps. MCU veterans Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo will also reprise Frank Castle/The Punisher and Bruce Banner/The Hulk while more rumours claim Florence Pugh will return as Yelena Belova following Thunderbolts*.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and is slated for release on July 31st 2026.
