Jeremy Irons joins Highlander reboot in villainous role

September 30, 2025 by Ricky Church

Though production on the Highlander reboot is delayed due to Henry Cavill’s injury during training, the film is on board to get cameras rolling in early 2026 and has announced a new addition to its cast. Per The Hollywood Reporter, legendary actor Jeremy Irons will star in the film as a villain against Cavill’s Connor MacLoed.

Highlander follows a group of immortal beings sworn to battle ahead of the Gathering, where only one will survive and claim a mysterious Prize.

Irons will feature as a secondary antagonist who is “the leader of a secret order called The Watchers, who are keeping an eye on the immortals and see them as a threat to humanity.”  He joins a cast that includes Russell Crowe as Connor’s mentor Ramirez and Dave Bautista as the main villain The Kurgen, another immortal warrior who battles Connor over several centuries.

Irons is no stranger to villainous roles as that has been one of the staples of his long career. Bad guys he’s known for include Scar in The Lion King, Simon in Die Hard with a Vengeance, twins Elliot and Beverly in Dead Ringers and more recently Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias in HBO’s Watchmen series.

Highlander is being directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski from a script by Michael Finch. The cast also includes Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou and WWE star Drew McIntyre.
