Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler face a game of dare in new Doctor Who adventure this December

October 4, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish will be releasing a horrifying new audio adventure for the Ninth Doctor this December with The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Dare You. This is the third in the current run of Ninth Doctor Adventures and stars Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler.

Continuing the connection with the Powell Estate, The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Dare You has the Doctor and Rose return to see her mum in the wake of the TV episode Father’s Day. What starts as an innocent visit to a typical inner-city London estate soon turns dark as a sinister force is playing truth or dare with the inhabitants, causing them to display the worst characteristics of humanity. It’s not long before this entity begins to play his sinister game with the Doctor, but it’s very dangerous to play games like that with the Doctor.

Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper are joined by Camille Coduri as Jackie, Beverley Klein as Polly Pemberton, Jack Ayres as Davey, and Harry Myers as Baz and the Hellion.

Writer Lisa McMullin said: “Having written for both the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler in their individual Big Finish adventures, it was a dream come true to write for them together in one story! And then to have Jackie Tyler to add into the mix – pure joy!  I’ve previously written a story for the Ninth Doctor that was inspired by my dad, so this one – with Rose and Jackie to play with – has the relationship between mothers and daughters at its heart. Plus an alien force that claims to be ‘only playing’ when the Doctor isn’t in the mood for games. I wanted to play with a Doctor whose safety catch had been removed. How far would the Doctor go if you dared them?”

The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Dare You can be pre-ordered now from Big Finish for £9.99 for the download or £11.99 for the download and limited collector’s edition CD. Multibuy bundles are also available.
