Thirteen Lives and Apollo 13 director Ron Howard loves himself a true story, and he’s found another one with Alone At Dawn, a military drama set to be headlined by Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway.
According to Deadline the duo have signed onto the Amazon MGM Studios drama, which is based on the New York Times best-selling book of the same name by Dan Schilling and Lori Chapman Longfritz.
Alone At Dawn tells the story of Medal of Honor recipient and Special Ops Combat Controller John Chapman, who in the predawn hours of March 4, 2003, below the 10,000-foot peak of a mountain in eastern Afghanistan, sacrificed his life to save 23 of his comrades-in-arms. Author Shilling was a combat control technician and will act as a consultant on the film, while Longfritz is Chapman’s sister.
Howard will direct from a script by Michael Russell Gunn (Designated Survivor), with Amazon confirming that they will release the film in theatres as part of a recently renewed deal with with Brian Grazer and Howard’s Imagine Entertainment.
Driver, who is a former Marine, is set to play Chapman, while Hathaway has been cast as the intelligence officer who fought to get him the Medal of Honor.
