Bob Odenkirk action thriller Normal sets April 2026 release

October 25, 2025 by Ricky Church

Bob Odenkirk’s era as an action star continues in Normal, a thriller which premiered at TIFF and was purchased by Magnolia Pictures, which has now set the film for an April 17th, 2026 release date.

Normal sees Odenkirk as “an unassuming substitute sheriff with a troubled past who, after moving to a small, sleepy town, responds to a bank robbery and unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive.”

Odenkirk is joined by Henry Winkler (Barry) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones). The film is directed by Ben Wheatley (Meg 2: The Trench) from a script by Derek Kolstead (John Wick).

Normal will be released across 2000 theatres which will be Magnolia’s widest release for one of its films yet. Buzz around the film was so positive after its TIFF premiere with Magnolia snatching it up so quickly that Kolstead revealed a sequel to Normal is already in the early stages of development.

Odenkirk is best known for playing Saul Goodman/Jimmy McGill in Breaking Bad and its prequel series Better Call Saul. In the time those series ended, he starred in the action thriller Nobody as a former assassin turned family man who turns back to his old ways after his family is targeted in an attack by an old crime lord.

Nobody was written by Kolstead with Ilya Naishuller directing, while the sequel Nobody 2 released this summer with Kolstead’s and Aaron Rabin’s script directed by Timo Tjahjanto.

Normal will release on April 17th, 2026.
