Warlord leads the arrival of four new Commando Comics

April 14, 2026 by Andrew Newton

Four new issues of Commando Comics are now available, and the first of these sees a brand new action-packed adventure for Lord Peter Flint, AKA Warlord. Joining these is a story of the brave Polish resistance and a couple of classic issues from the 70s and 80s.

Issue 5947 (Home of Heroes): CODENAME WARLORD: Shadow Sands is a new adventure for Warlord by Dominic Teague. In possibly his most dangerous mission to date, a team of German commandos and Professor Kranz’s robot Panzermen have taken control of a biological weapons facility at a fort off the coast of England. Warlord’s handler, Kingpin, along with the scientists, have been taken hostage, but intelligence suggests the Germans had help, and the fingers are pointing at Kingpin. Warlord has until midnight to rescue the hostages and clear Kingpin’s name. Can he make it?

This issue features cover artwork by Neil Roberts and internal art by Paolo Ongaro.

In 5948 (Gold): Desert Double-Cross, a British soldier, hardened by the battles of Tobruk, Dunkirk and El Alamein, and a German veteran of North Africa and Crete stand side by side, firing their weapons and cutting down enemies. Both German and British soldiers fought their hardest that day in the ruins of the old fort as allies, but against whom?

This issue, first published as No.604 in 1971, is written by CG Walker, with cover art by Ian Kennedy and internal art by Cam Kennedy.

5949 (For Action and Adventure): Phoenix From The Flames takes the reader to Warsaw in the summer of 1944. The city had seen how cruel the Germans could be, particularly to the Jewish ghetto, but Monika Proch of the brave underground Polish Home Army is determined to prevent the rest of her city from suffering the same fate.

Phoenix From The Flames is written by Andrew Knighton, with art by Vicente Alcazar, and cover art by Marco Bianchini.

Finally, in 5950 (Silver): Swamp Strike, CG Walker takes readers through miles of hostile jungle with a platoon of soldiers to attack a secret enemy supply dump. A reliable, cool-headed and trustworthy fella should lead men tasked with such a mission, but what if the leader is someone whose lies have caused a lot of trouble? This issue, first published in 1984 as No. 1858, shows us what happens with this type of man in charge.

Artwork by Carrion and cover art by Philpott.

These four new issues are now available from all good retailers or from the Commando Comics website.
