Brendan Fraser leads a mission to Mars in Starman

May 8, 2026 by Ricky Church

Before Brendan Fraser gets back to fighting the undead, he will be heading to Mars in the sci-fi film Starman from director Josh Wakely in his feature-length debut.

Starman follows Fraser’s visionary technologist Tom Adams — an architect of the future — who launches a historic expedition to Mars, positioning himself at the forefront of humanity’s next frontier. But when unforeseen events find him millions of miles from Earth, his mission becomes an unexpected and urgent race against time, driven not by survival alone but by love.

The script has been written by Wakely who will produce through Grace: A Storytelling Company with Rebecca Graham and Sight Unseen’s Eddie Vaisman. Batman Begins and Blade writer David Goyer will also executive produce the film. The project will be presented to buyers during the Cannes film festival.

Fraser is coming off several hits to his career comeback, first with his Academy Award nominated role in The Whale and more recently in Rental Family. He’ll be seen next in the World War II drama Pressure as US general Dwight D. Eisenhower and then reunite with Rachel Weisz and John Hannah for a fourth Mummy, set for release in October 2027.

Starman will mark Wakely’s feature directorial debut after writing and directing Netflix’s animated series Beat Bugs and Motown Magic.
