Euphoria officially over with third season finale

June 1, 2026 by Ricky Church

Last night HBO aired the conclusion to the third season of Euphoria, but series creator Sam Levinson and HBO have officially confirmed it was also the series finale of the Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi-led series.

Euphoria first premiered in 2019 where it followed “a group of high school students as they navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship.” The series faced several long gaps in production in between seasons, the longest of which was four years between seasons two and three.

This was due in part to the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes as well as how much Zendaya, Sweeney and Elordi’s careers exploded with Zendeya joining the Dune franchise, Challengers and the recently released The Drama, Sweeney in The Housemaid, Christy and Anyone But You and Elordi in Saltburn, Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights. The long gap also forced a massive time jump where the cast were no longer in high school, showing Zendaya’s Rue running drugs for crime bosses and Elordi and Sweeney’s Nathan and Cassie in serious debt to loan sharks among other problems with the rest of the characters.

SPOILERS FOLLOW

The confirmation season three was the ending of Euphoria isn’t exactly surprising given that in the final episodes Nate died from a snake bite after being buried alive by his loan sharks and Rue overdosed on fentanyl-laced painkillers to tie up loose ends from her criminal employer. The finale also saw Cassie and Maddie decide to go into business together while Rue’s ex Jules mourns her passing.

Euphoria starred Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace and Colman Domingo.
