Boutique game publisher 33 Games has announced they will be releasing a premium physical edition of Utopia: The Creation of a Nation Archive Edition for the Super Nintendo (SNES) later this year. Created in partnership with Umbra Dynamics, this edition of one of Gremlin’s most beloved games will have players setting up colonies on alien worlds.

Gremlin’s Utopia: The Creation of a Nation first arrived on the 16-bit computers in 1991 and eventually launched on the Super Nintendo in 1993. Fans often called this classic ‘SimCity in space’, but the truth was that there was so much more to it than just building a city. This was a colonisation sim set on alien worlds, where oxygen needs to be generated just as much as power. What set this apart from other city builders, though, was the addition of alien attacks and city defences. They’d be small attacks at first, but over time they’d increase in numbers and power, and it was vital to have sufficient defences surrounding the colony.

The announcement for Utopia: The Creation of a Nation Archive Edition follows the arrival of 33 Games’ Zool (also by Gremlin) on the Sega Mega Drive, copies of which are now available to reserve on the 33 Games website.

As part of this upcoming edition, 33 Games are also working with the game’s original cover artist Danny Flynn, who will help create and reimagine the game’s visual identity for the new release. Not only that, the original release supported the SNES Mouse, and a compatible mouse will also be included with the physical release, along with other goodies.
