Apidya’ Special brings an Amiga classic to a new generation of gamers

August 27, 2026 by Andrew Newton

ININ Games’ modern remake of the hit Amiga shoot-’em-up, Apidya’ Special is now available to purchase on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. First released in 1992, Apidya amazed the gaming magazines and gamers with its insect-themed fantasy world, gorgeous soundtrack and beautiful visuals. This remake recreates that experience for a new generation of gamers.

Apidya’ Special has been developed by the original team alongside an Apidya super-fan turned developer and is based on an abandoned console port. Using this, the developers have been able to combine original assets with all-new pixel art, used authentic sound effects, and remixed music.

This remake of the Amiga classic features two visual modes, allowing players to switch between HD widescreen and the original home computer 4:3 mode. There are also several visual effects to help immerse players, including CRT shaders, bloom, and authentic scanline simulation.

Players will be able to fight their way through 5 diverse themed worlds, including Meadow, Pond, Sewers, Cyber, and Lair, with each having up to five levels, 20 unique bosses and plenty of hidden special stages for players to discover. There are also new random in-game events, such as ‘Night Mode’, featuring new enemy sprites.

There’s also a brand new co-op mode, allowing friends to join in and control their very own bee with its own weapons. Plus, with modernised difficulty levels, nobody can complain the game is too hard.

Finally, there’s an exclusive Chris Hülsbeck OST with original and new studio versions of the game’s iconic soundtrack, and players can also enjoy original Amiga recordings.

Apidya’ Special is available now, digitally, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
